My name is Jorlui Sillau. I am a first-generation Latino raised in The Bronx. I grew up in a strong community with many socioeconomic challenges that produced both strong core values and learning experiences. The balance between the two became the foundation of my lifelong resilience. This resilience was built upon the overcoming of challenges and my persistence to get through them. My motivation was making the vision I had for who I wanted to be as a person and as a professional, a reality. Within the process of figuring out my path and learning about my strengths, I experienced many rock bottom moments at different stages of my life. Moments such as struggling with childhood trauma, failing out of college, then returning from my tour in Iraq struggling with additional mental health challenges. I tried to find my purpose in life and my career where I could thrive, not just survive. I found support in peers, counseling and focusing on my wellness.
I’ve worked in government, healthcare, academic and community-based settings helping programs exceed their goals. This was done in a scalable, sustainable and equitable manner to achieve the greatest impact. Having worked with diverse staff from a wide range of professions I have understood that the success of a whole depends on the success of the individual. Understanding this concept will improve motivation, morale, productivity and satisfaction. Today as a Marine Corps Veteran, Clinical Licensed Social Worker, Psychotherapist, Consultant, Marathon Runner, Father, and a successful Nonprofit Leader… I look forward to partnering with you.
